I Use Chatroulette to Avoid Freddy Krueger

I know, Nancy (Rooney Mara) is watching a guy’s video blog in that shot, but with everyone (still) talking about Chatroulette this week — including Paul Scheer’s brilliant homage to Michael and Walt’s mysterious chat session from season 2 of Lost — I initially thought it was some kind of video chat site that she was using.

And why wouldn’t she be on Chatroulette, which has (admit it) kept us all up way too late at least once since becoming a “thing”? Seriously, if you don’t want to fall asleep and get murdered by Freddy, it’s the best way to stay up outside of gulping down spoonfuls of coffee grounds with a Diet Coke chaser.

A missed opportunity in product placement, if you ask me — not that the 17-year-old Russian kid who founded the site really needs more publicity. But if this were still the fun Nightmare franchise of yore, there’d be gag kills involving Freddy showing up on Facebook or YouTube or something. Not the ol’ falling asleep in class shtick again.

What would you do to avoid having nightmares of razor-gloved burn victims who can actually magically kill you in your sleep?

While you’re thinking, here are some blog reactions to the new A Nightmare on Elm Street remake trailer:

  • Tom Ganjamie at Best Week Ever:
It was also good of Christian Bale to lend his Batman voice to German super spy Freddy Krueger (that’s what he is, right?). Be sure to check this one out in April, because it won’t be remade for at least sixteen more years
  • Mike Bracken at Horror Squad:
For those of you who are wondering, yes, the clip does feature Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy. There was a great deal of concern about the actor’s voice after the last trailer debuted—and while it sounds like they’ve changed it to a certain degree for this trailer, I’m still not feeling it’s what it should be. Perhaps it will grow on me in the context of the full performance.

New ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Trailer Gives Fans What They Wanted […]

What the fans wanted was more vlogging and Gold Bond product placement, right?

  • Gabe at Videogum:
The new trailer for the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake proves what I have always suspected about the original: NEEDED MORE VLOGGING.
